What are 2 most important things that you have learned within your career?

1. Consistency pays off when it comes to the learning process.

2. Learning never stops and you have to always push yourself to learn new things every now and then so as to better yourself personally and also better your career.

My workplace this year has a fair representation of female staff. Its a space where your work ethic and results are the true representation of who you are as an employee. I am grateful that I have not been in a position where I am undermined or treated differently because of my gender. I truly believe that if as women we take the steps towards career growth and confidently show up and intentionally do our best at the workplace, these barriers will become a thing of the past.

What are 2 most important things that you have learned within your career?

1. To have ownership of my role and go over and above in my delivery.

2. To be more intentional about my wins from day one, it is these wins that land one the next opportunity.

Martha learnt about her current role through ProInterns which has been a perfect fit for her career goal.

She encourages young women to choose a path and sign up for online courses within their career. This will help them not only add to their CV but understand relevant best practices within their industry.

It means finally women have learned to take up their space with out fear of what society will think or say. It means I can achieve anything I set my mind to be whether it is working in a male dominated industry or learning skills only known to be performed by men. It simply mean "I CAN"

What are 2 most important things that you have learned within your career?

1. I have learned to be patient with myself

2. I have learned to always be open minded to learning new skills

Esther was connected to her exciting position through ProInterns. "It has opened doors for me to gain the experience I needed to push my career to the next level and so thankful to Ms Vanessa the founder of this platform" - says Esther.

This years theme for #WomensMonth is #BreaktheBias; as a young woman in the workplace, what does this mean for you and your career?

It means that even as a woman I can still raise the bar and rules where men dominate. I can even take on a career that has been assigned to men.

What message do you have for young women who want to excel in their careers or are looking for employment opportunities?

  1. Exposure is very important; this can be done by signing up with platforms like ProInterns, LinkedIn etc. such platforms help you to gain new connections.

  2. Take on job opportunities that offer a learning platform. If you are not learning something  new wherever  you are working then that's a wrong place for you. You need find challenges. For example, personally whenever I get a new job and there are no more challenging tasks that push me to learn, then it's time for me to change jobs.

  3. While on job, identify areas you are not good at or can't  do at all and learn them. You shouldn't  hesitate to ask the person in charge to give you an opportunity to learn. Lastly, go the extra mile; even beyond your job description, trust me you will gain more.

Annmary was connected to this role through ProInterns, she has learnt how to work with people and adapt to change quickly.

That concludes our #womensmonth series! We hope you have enjoyed reading the experiences of our amazing guests. Be inspired to walk in confidence within your career ladies #breakthebias.
